THE extension of the Malaga metro This is one of the main projects underway in Andalusia as a commitment to sustainable public transport, with a total investment of 244 million euros. Thanks to these works, the network is extended by 1.8 kilometers from Guadalmedina station to the surroundings of the Civil Hospital. Very far from initial forecasts, while it was expected to be completed at the end of 2027, everything seems to indicate that it will be necessary to wait until 2030 to be completed.
The project is divided into three clearly differentiated sections, each of them in different phases of development. The first of them extends between Guadalmedina and Hilerawhich has already exceeded 60% of its execution, in addition to having completed 98% of the 1,400 linear meters of diaphragm walls which make up the tunnel and the future Hilera station. This phase, which began in January 2024, should end in early 2027.
The second section extends between Hilera and Eugenio Grosswhose work began in July 2025. In this case, it has a length of 653 meters and includes the construction of the station The Trinitywhich will be located approximately 14 meters below Eugenio Gross Street. For this section, which represents an investment of 46 million euros, a completion time of 36 months is planned, its completion is therefore planned for 2028.
The third and final section, between Eugenio Gross and Blas de Lezowill represent the last 510 meters of the expansion of the Malaga metro. Within this segment, the aforementioned Civil Hospital Stationa key element in the extension of the network. It is expected that, in the best case scenario, Málaga will have to wait until 2030 for the metro to reach the end of its extension.

The extension of the metro to the Civil Hospital will significantly transform the accessibility of several areas of Malaga, mainly in the northern area of the city. Located in the north of the city, the district has for years been calling for an improved connection with metropolitan public transport.
In addition, the expansion of the Malaga metro network will cover different sectors of the Cruz de Humilladero neighborhood during the initial tour from Guadalmedina, as well as in areas of the Center in the transition zone. Likewise, with a route that will pass under Armengual de la Mota, Santa Elena, Hilera, Blas de Lezo, Eugenio Gross and Simón BolÃvar avenues, it will particularly benefit the residents of the neighborhood. Trinity district and its surroundings.

From Atarazanas Station, located in the historic center of the city, the total journey time to the Civil Hospital will be approximately 5 and a half minutesimproving accessibility to health equipment.
