Geneva, December 12 (EFE). – The World Health Organization (WHO) said on Friday that it had received information that at least ten people had died in Gaza in the last 24 hours due to heavy rain and cold caused by a storm that hit the area.
“This highlights the threats faced by families who have no safe place to go,” WHO Palestine operations chief Rik Peeperkorn said in a conference call with the press in Geneva.
He predicted that the winter conditions, combined with the lack of water and sanitation, “will lead to an increase in acute respiratory infections, including influenza, as well as hepatitis and diarrheal diseases, with greater risk to children, the elderly and the chronically ill.” EFE
