Fátima Bosch’s recent decision to leave an interview on Telemundo incomplete has increased media attention on the complicated beginning of her reign as Miss Universe.
While the young Mexican participated in the taping of the program “Pica y extension”, questions mounted about the controversy that marred her victory, from the defamation lawsuit allegedly filed by Nawat Itsaragrisil (Executive Director of Miss Universe Thailand) to rumors of irregularities in the selection of the winner and the special circumstances of the Miss Ivoire Coast case.
During the conversation, the moderators did not avoid sensitive topics. Carlos Adyan directly asked the reason why the Ivorian representative did not receive the crown, an issue related to the travel obstacles she faces due to her passport. Bosch responded that it did not know the regulatory details of the competition, but stated:
“Everyone should have an equal chance to win regardless of their passport, but as an organization it is a business and it is a job (…). When you have to travel the world, it is obvious that you need someone who can travel easily.”
Carlos Adyan’s career attracts attention after he asks Fátima Bosch uncomfortable questions.
This Puerto Rican communicator left his island with his mother and younger brother to start from scratch in the United States when he was barely fifteen years old.
“Even though I was fluent in English, I was very afraid of my accent and my teasing, and that made me the shyest boy in the room when I was the most outgoing since I was little,” he said, analyzing his beginnings.

The adjustment had complex moments, but the determination to move forward led Adyan to overcome his insecurities and fully integrate into his new environment. The presenter himself recalled how, in his second year in the United States, he took on the challenge of becoming an active part of the school community and eventually chaired the National Honor Society. This determination cemented his character and laid the foundation for a budding career in Hispanic media.
Carlos Adyan’s entry into the television world began with firm steps in Miami, where, after serving as personal assistant to Marc Anthony, he attended an audition for Telemundo that would change the course of his professional life.
Just hours after the test, he was hired for the position of traffic reporter on the local newscast, an experience that helped him learn core skills for live television. Adyan shared, “From that moment on, I focused on my goal and even though I was a traffic reporter, I asked to do entertainment duties.”
During this time, the young journalist also took on new challenges by leading Acceso Local on Telemundo 51 and contributing to Suelta la sopa, laying the foundation for establishing himself as a recognized voice in Spanish-language entertainment.
His first experiences in front of the camera were crucial, as told by Adyan; During an event covered for the TV Azteca program Al Extremo, he discovered the comfort and security he felt in the audiovisual medium. This belief would lead him to specialize and develop professionally.
In 2020, the context imposed by the pandemic led Adyan to become part of At home with Telemundo, a space aimed at providing positive news and moments of family respite in times of isolation.
Currently, five years after the launch of En casa con Telemundo, Carlos Adyan has consolidated his image as a reference presenter among millennial audiences.
The Mexican queen’s discomfort became clear when Lourdes Stephen asked her about the financial controversies surrounding Raúl Rocha Cantú, the owner of the Miss Universe Organization, whose bank accounts are frozen. “Miss Universe is a dream. I have nothing to do with these things. My job is to be a voice for women. I don’t think my participation should be linked to external issues,” Bosch said.
Minutes later, in response to her insistence on the alleged lawsuit in Thailand, Miss Universe reiterated that she had no formal knowledge of any legal action and did not wish to delve further into the matter. He assured: “I have not defamed anyone, I have not said anything that is not true. What I think is that this is an issue that is… being talked about, but we need to turn the page because there are simply more important things that we need to talk about, like empowering real women.”

The tension increased. Shortly after answering these questions, Bosch decided to leave the forum and cancel his future appearances agreed upon with the network, including a special segment featuring mariachis in his honor. It was Lourdes Stephen herself who reported on television that Fátima was retiring after the first block and would no longer continue the program. For his part, Carlos Adyan explained: “In the end she stopped the interview and we really didn’t know that she had left the studio until they told us that she would not participate in that part because she had decided to leave the premises.”
The episode sparked a wave of reactions on social media, particularly criticism of Adyan’s work and expressions of support for Bosch.
