Last Thursday, November 11, Ariel Holan stopped being coach of Rosario Central. The surprising news was announced by the Canalla club, which announced that the coach would no longer be part of the institution and dismissed him with a short message. Without wasting time, the official report of the Rosario club announced the new technical director five days later.
Ángel Di María and his teammates, who were the best in the 2025 annual table, already know the name of the man who will lead them in the search for the great goal of 2026: the Copa Libertadores de América. “Jorge Almirón is the new coach of Rosario Central. Welcome!”, the official account of X del Canalla, published this Thursday at 6:50 p.m.

Almirón is facing his seventh challenge at club level in Argentine football. After directing Dorados de México, he moved to Defense and Justicea club he played for in the Primera Nacional in 2009. Without achieving promotion, he jumped again to the North American country to play for Veracruz and Correcaminos, always in the second division of LigaMX. In 2012 he returned to Halcón de Varela, where he finished in sixth place and again failed to receive a First Division pass.
Before finally establishing himself in Argentine football, he completed another stint in Mexico (Tijuana): after a good season with Godoy Cruz, in which he finished fourth, he moved to Independiente: in 2014 he reached fourth place again and was released the following year, where he only won three out of 13 games played. His next stop was Lanús, where he became champions and was a Copa Libertadores finalist.
But he also had a failed passage through San Lorenzo, alongside Colombia, Saudi Arabia, Spain and Chile The last experience that remained in the retina was his work in Boca. Although the team did not shine, he reached the sixth Copa Libertadores final, where it lost to Fluminense.
With two Libertadores finals under their belt, Almirón’s strength in mata-mata appears to have been the reason why Rosario Central leaders did not renew Almirón, who were quickly eliminated in the playoffs in both the Apertura and Clausura tournaments.
Almirón’s last experience was in Chile, where he won the championship with Colo Colo.
