The allies of Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ), chosen by Jair Bolsonaro as Planalto candidate in 2026, believe that the former president was prudent in publishing a letter of support for his son before the surgical operation carried out on Thursday (25/12).
According to Flávio’s interlocutors, Bolsonaro decided to publish the letter in which he confirmed his support for the senator as a pre-candidate for the President of the Republic in 2026, taking into account the risks of the surgical intervention.

Although bilateral inguinal hernia repair is considered low risk, the former president, according to the senator’s allies, feared that the worst would happen and that he would not have the opportunity to give Flávio his blessing.
As the column shows, Bolsonaro’s refusal to grant an interview to Metropolises Tuesday (23/12), the financial market assessed a possible hesitation in the confirmation of support for the “01” of the family.

In the letter published on Christmas morning, Bolsonaro said he made the decision to support Flávio in a way that was “conscious, legitimate and supported by the desire to preserve the representation of those who trusted him.”
“I am handing over the most important thing in a father’s life: his own son, to keep the flame of our Brazil alive. I have faith in a conscious and legitimate decision supported by the desire to preserve the representation of those who trusted me,” wrote former President Jair Bolsonaro.
Operation Bolsonaro
The operation took place without complications, according to Doctor Cláudio Birolini, responsible for the former president’s care. The intervention began around 9:40 a.m. and lasted approximately three hours.
However, there is the possibility of new interventions to treat the constant attacks of hiccups that Bolsonaro suffers from, according to the doctor.
“We are introducing a new, more optimized treatment. From there we will observe its clinical evolution and the spacing of hiccups. It is a very worrying symptom, because it affects sleep. This is one of our concerns”, explained Cláudio Birolini.
