Knockout tournament champion will pocket over 77 million reais just for the title
The big winner of Brazilian Cup wins, in addition to the trophy, a considerable sum of money. Vasco and Corinthians will play the final this Sunday 21, at 6 p.m. (Brasilia time), at the Maracanã stadium.
The champion pockets R$77.175 million just for his victory. The MP receives R$33.075 million. In this edition of the knockout tournament, Vasco has already obtained around R$57 million (sum of the prizes of the previous stages plus a possible runner-up, in the worst case), but if he is champion it will reach R$101.2 million. Corinthians, in turn, guaranteed R$53.6 million (R$20.6 million from previous stages plus the possibility of a vice president). If they win the cup at the Maracanã, the São Paulo residents will receive a total of 97.8 million reais in Copa do Brasil prize money.
For this 2025 season, the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) has readjusted by 5% the amount of Copa do Brasil bonuses for Serie A clubs. The increase takes into account inflation on the broad consumer price index (IPCA), which is the tax applied to quotas distributed within the framework of the competition. The values are therefore records.
The knockout tournament has gained enormous importance in recent years, enjoying great appreciation, including financially, especially since the 2017 season.
In 2018, the Copa do Brasil signed a commercial agreement for the broadcast of the matches, signed between CBF and TV Globo. As a result, tournament values skyrocketed and the entity began rewarding participating teams with increasingly larger amounts of money.
The first contract between Globo and CBF for the Copa do Brasil ended in 2022, but was later extended until 2026. The confederation lures high-priced clubs into prioritizing the competition. From then on, the tournament becomes more attractive to supporters, whether those who go to the stadiums or watch it on television and streaming platforms.
Negotiations will take place next year for a new agreement, starting in 2027, probably for another four years, until 2030. In 2026, the Copa do Brasil will have more clubs: there will be 126, reaching 128 in 2027. In 2025, there were 92 participants. The new format has an impact on broadcast rights negotiations.
The Copa do Brasil had already “gained momentum” in 2013, when clubs participating in the Libertadores began participating in the domestic knockout stage. Before, this didn’t happen. In addition, the champion guarantees a direct place in the group stage of the Copa Libertadores da América.
The sums distributed during the Copa do Brasil are not comparable to those of other tournaments in South America. Last year, the Argentine Cup, for example, awarded the winner around R$985,000.
In 2024, Flamengo, current champions, pocketed around 93 million reais after winning the title. This year, if he wins, Vasco could earn up to 101 million reais. The Rio team participated in the tournament from the first phase.
