At some point we all said “yes” even though we really wanted to say “no”. Many people are afraid to say “no” to others because they don’t want to be excluded or rejected. That is, they fear the negative consequences of their reaction. “If everyone does it, how can I say no?” they think.
It is important to be clear that saying “no” is absolutely necessary in our lives.. But we must learn to let it out in a good tone and remain at peace. Remember: It is allowed to say “no”. And sometimes even It can mean taking care of our physical and emotional health.
Why can’t we say “no” sometimes? In many cases the disorientation can be traced back to this We don’t know how to identify our priorities. We find it difficult to define what we really want and where we want to direct our lives. However, this knowledge is fundamental because all our decisions – consciously or unconsciously – are influenced by the goal we are pursuing. When someone is clear about their goal, it is easier for them to distinguish what to say “yes” to and what to say “no” to. In other words: what to accept and what to reject. And that’s it These two words, so short in our language, have enormous power: They can set boundaries or open doors, both with others and with ourselves.
I invite you to think about some uses of “yes” and “no” that should not be missing in our daily life:
We say every “yes” and every “no”. They’ll keep us focused. They help us know what to choose and who to interact with. They also enable us to take responsibility. And responsibility means knowing exactly what we have to do and what not. Who are the people who stand out the most right now? The one who keeps his promises. Now, when we have doubts about how to answer, we take the necessary time to think about it and then decide. Even if they put pressure on us, we give ourselves that time. And once we have the answer, we stick with our decision. Let’s not change our minds, let’s stick to our word.
Being true to our word means being true to ourselves. This makes us trustworthy people who know what they want and work towards it every day.
