Mexico City will light up to celebrate the last days of the year with the Winter Festival of Lights. There will be more than 600 cultural activities in 16 public spaces where you can enjoy posadas, concerts, storytelling and much more. The arrival of 890,000 national and foreign tourists is expected, for a total of almost two million participants and an economic benefit of 17,247 million pesos, according to the Secretary of Tourism, Alejandra Frausto Guerrero.
The most important events will take place, as always, at the Zócalo in the capital. From December 20 to January 4, the central plaque will host a monumental nativity scene, concerts, illuminated characters, poinsettia Christmas trees, sales of these flowers and a huge 150-meter light tunnel, ideal for taking a photo. On the esplanade there will also be a forum with activities such as storytelling and pastorelas, and those looking for seasonal gifts can visit the Artesanos del corazón bazaar with more than 120 exhibitors from 19 states of the country.
Fifteen other public spaces in different municipalities will also host activities and concerts “with the aim of decentralizing the right to culture and building territories of equality”, we can read in the press release from the government of the capital. “This culture is not only present in certain areas of the city, we want it to reach all neighborhoods, cities and communities,” concluded Brugada.
Visitors will be able to find activities at:
