The Municipal Health Department of Rio de Janeiro (RJ) announced, this Friday (26/12), that the daily average of consultations carried out during the last three days of intense heat in the wonderful city was 450. The total recorded so far is 1,347 consultations.
The most common cases presented were weakness, dizziness, fainting and sunburn.
Since the afternoon of Christmas Eve (24/12), the city has been in heat phase 3 – on a scale of up to 5 –, with temperatures ranging from 36°C to 40°C.
AlertaRio
According to AlertaRio, forecasts predict that the next three days will continue like this, that is, the number of visits to health centers will tend to at least triple. The capital Rio de Janeiro is expected to continue with clear to partly cloudy skies, no rain, light to moderate winds and high temperatures.
Only from Tuesday next week (12/30) there could be light to moderate rain, which should help calm the thermometers.
Rio City Hall recommends that residents increase their water consumption, even if they are not thirsty; avoid drinking alcoholic beverages; wear light, airy clothing; avoid direct exposure to the sun, particularly from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; avoid strenuous physical activities; use sunscreen and seek medical attention if you feel unwell.

Intense heat and thunderstorms: find out what the weather will be like across the country this Friday
Entrance
The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) says the cause of the intense heat is atmospheric blocking, a phenomenon that causes temperatures up to five degrees above normal for this time of year. The agency issued a red alert for heat waves in the South, Midwest and mainly Southeast states.
High temperatures will affect a large part of the country until next Monday (29/12). The climate agency’s red alert means “great danger”. This indicates a situation of exceptional thermal intensity, presenting a risk to physical integrity and human life. The capital Rio is classified as severe.
