
The woman who was in the property where the explosion occurred, in the Vila Santo Antônio region, in the northern zone of São Paulo, is under investigation because she is suspected of being at the origin of the flames, which injured military police and firefighters. Police were called to the address where there was a strong smell of gas in the early hours of last Monday (8). Moments after crews gained access to the property, the explosion occurred, injuring seven people, including the resident.

The 26-year-old woman was arrested and remained hospitalized under police escort. After a custody hearing, she was released by the court. She, whose identity has not been revealed, will face charges of explosion in an inhabited house and attempted murder.
The São Paulo State Civil Police (PCESP) is investigating the case, registered in the 72nd Police District, and is awaiting the results of the reports to conclude it.
According to the Secretariat of Public Security, “investigations indicate that the explosion was caused intentionally, with the aim of hitting the police officers who were responding to the incident,” it said in a statement. Civil police say “there is evidence that the gas was deliberately released and set on fire shortly after crews entered the property.” Technical expertise was requested to clarify the case.

On Monday around 12:10 a.m., the Prime Minister’s agents went to a house in Travessa Viário, in the Jaraguá neighborhood, to intervene in an incident. According to initial reports, it was a woman in a psychotic episode who, in a suicide attempt, threatened to cause an explosion with cooking gas. The police tried in vain to contact the resident, the Public Security Secretariat (SSP) noted in a note.
The area was isolated and firefighters were called to assist. There was a smell of gas. The men managed to open the gate to the property and shortly afterwards the explosion occurred, affecting the military police, firefighters and the woman. A total of seven people were injured. All were transported to hospitals in the region, the Prime Minister stressed.
Thursday evening, the Military Police informed, in a note, that three of its injured officers remain in serious condition in the intensive care unit of the Hospital das Clínicas. There is no information on the condition of the injured firefighters.
In a press release, the Military Police stresses that it “deeply regrets what happened and informs that it provides all the necessary support to the police officers and their families”.
