Woman killed in grocery cart: Suspect arrested

A São Paulo court on Friday night (5/12) ordered the provisional detention of Eric Pereira dos Santos, known as “Cicatriz”. He is the main suspect in the death of Angelica Alves Camargo, the woman who was found inside a supermarket trolley in Vila Formosa, east of São Paulo.

Security camera footage shows a man pulling the cart and abandoning the body before fleeing. “Cicatriz” was identified through a photo from the police system and through photographs obtained through the Muralha Paulista.

The case began after a neighborhood resident began investigating the theft of two bicycles from his home. He decided to accompany the suspect and remained in the car on Rua General Oscar Carvalho in the early hours of Tuesday (2/11). He collided with the man, who noticed his approach and fled.

The witness thought the bike parts were inside the cart, but eventually noticed the body of a woman wrapped in a sheet and surrounded by a plastic bag. The victim was identified as 43-year-old Angelica Alves Camargo. There were no obvious signs of violence.

According to the Secretariat of Public Security (SSP), expertise was requested from the State Department for Homicide and Personal Protection (DHPP).

The incident was registered as a murder in District 30 (Tatuabi).
