The jury court sentenced Kauana Nascimento, 31, for stabbing to death her own daughter, Anna Pilar Cabrera, 7, in August 2024. The sentence was announced by Judge Flávio Curvello Martins de Souza, of the 1st Criminal Court of the Novo Hamburgo District, around 10:30 p.m. this Tuesday (16/12): 44 years, 5 months and 10 days. prison, in closed regime.
According to the complaint presented by the Public Ministry of Rio Grande do Sul (MPRS), Kauana allegedly committed the crime to take revenge on her ex-partner, the child’s father, who was in a new relationship. The murder occurred on the child’s father’s birthday.
The woman, who was arrested two days after the crime, was found guilty of crimes of qualified homicide for a vile, somewhat cruel motive, a resource that made the defense of the victim difficult, in addition to the fact that the crime was committed against a minor under 14 years old and also a descendant of the accused.
The murder took place in the apartment where the woman lived with the victim, in Novo Hamburgo (RS). The attack took place while the child was sleeping. After committing the crime, Kauana threw her daughter’s body down the stairs.
She told the police that the girl had died in the fall, which was contradicted by the expert report. Anna’s cause of death was hemorrhagic shock caused by the stabbing.
Kauana Nascimento’s defense will appeal the decision.

How did the trial go?
The Sentencing Council of the Kauana Nascimento trial was composed of seven women, who recognized the criminal responsibility of the accused.
Tuesday morning, the victim’s father made a statement. The man, whose name has not been released, described his emotional connection with his daughter and clarified details of his relationship with Kauana after the relationship ended in 2021.
In the afternoon, Kauana made a statement and claimed to have been experiencing a psychotic episode at the time of the crime. The defendant detailed the various emotional issues that led to the crime and said she did not remember stabbing her own daughter.
