The wind that has hit the city of São Paulo since this Wednesday morning (10/12) has caused discomfort, dizziness and nausea among workers in the Faria Lima region, in the western zone. The impact of the violent winds, which reached 96.3 km/h, was felt most intensely on the highest floors of the buildings.
Earthquakes, elevator failures and power outages have been reported. Containers containing liquids, such as bottles and glasses of water, swung “on their own”, probably due to the impact of gusts of wind.
“Horrible, I’m still sick now,” Eliane Uehara, who works on the 25th floor of the building that houses the Tomie Ohtake Institute, told AFP. Metropolises.
She heard similar stories from people on lower floors and felt the building shake.
Extratropical cyclone
The wind comes amid an extratropical cyclone formed in southern Brazil. The measurement carried out by Civil Defense between 10:00 and 10:30 a.m. in Mirante de Santana, north of São Paulo, recorded gusts approaching 100 km/h.
The areas of Congonhas airport in the south and Campo de Marte in the north recorded winds of 69 km/h.
The Department of Environment, Infrastructure and Logistics (Semil) reported that urban parks in the capital and the metropolitan region of São Paulo were closed due to the gusts recorded between Tuesday (10/09) and this morning.
The winds were also responsible for the cancellation of five flights and the relocation of 10 others to Congonhas airport, south of the capital.
