Marcelo Moretti, former president of San Lorenzo, staged another unusual defense amid the scandal in which he is implicated for alleged bribery, assuring: “If they have to return the money I deposited, they will have to give me part of the stadium.”
The statement came during a radio interview in which he also stressed that his dismissal was “a coup.” Moretti, who left San Lorenzo amid a very serious institutional crisis, admitted that he was sure that “the judiciary will agree with me because this was a coup.”
In this context, he announced that he would request review of the judgment in the first instance and, if necessary, appeal to the Civil Chamber.
On the other hand, he explained: “In two years I took $400,000 out of my pocket. All donations are properly recorded. Together they came to a total of seven or eight million dollars.”
Finally, he emphasized: “I never demanded anything from the club or filed a lawsuit and I suffered mutual losses”, adding: “I am not a politician, I am a lawyer. I compiled the list badly and many people cheated me.”
The Moretti scandal stems from a hidden camera shown on a television program in which the lawyer and former president of “Ciclón” receives a wad of $100 bills to sign a youth player.
This entire conflict led to the acephaly of San Lorenzo and the call for early elections, in which the extraordinary assembly elected Sergio Costantino as interim president after defeating Matías Lammens by just four votes.
San Lorenzo will face a very difficult market given the urgent need to sell several players to clear the hurdles, which are around four million dollars.
