A young man died in the early hours of Thursday following drowning after accidentally falling into the waters of the port of Barcelona, as reported this Friday by sources from Mossos d’Esquadra.
The event occurred early in the morning after Christmas Eve, around the Maremagnum shopping center in Port Vell, when the young man, of foreign nationality, fell into the water. Witnesses to the fall informed the emergency services, who dispatched paramedics from the Emergency Medical System (SEM) to the scene. However, health workers were unable to resuscitate the young man.
The event took place in the area where, a few hours later, the 116th edition of the traditional Nadal Swimming Cup took place, which brought together more than 400 swimmers in the waters of the port, the third largest participation in the history of the oldest open water event in Spain and one of the longest in Europe.
