The journey of Seyni, aged just 21, ended tragically on May 10, 2024, in the Fresnes remand center, in Val-de-Marne, France.
Involved in the robbery of the home of Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, the young man was found hanged in his own cell.
His death highlighted the violent methods of organized crime and raised questions about the conditions of detention and the protection of detainees in extremely vulnerable situations.
Even before dawn, an atmosphere of tension gripped the third floor of the prison. Two inmates alerted prison officials that something strange was happening in one of the cells.
Arriving at cell 235, the guards found the room torn apart and, hanging from the window bars, Seyni’s fragile body. He was unconscious. Attempts at cardiopulmonary resuscitation and the use of a defibrillator failed and the young man died instantly.
Seyni had been arrested for participation in the robbery of Donnarumma’s house, which occurred in the early hours of July 2023, in Paris. On this occasion, armed criminals invaded the residence of the Italian guard, in the eighth arrondissement of the French capital, captured Donnarumma and his companion and tied them up.
The athlete was slightly injured and his partner was not injured. The couple managed to escape and seek help at a nearby hotel, then were taken to hospital by police. The group recovered jewelry, luxury watches and leather items worth around 500,000 euros.
According to the investigation, Seyni was not part of the hard core of the gang. He would have acted as driver and observer, a role considered secondary. Recruited by a criminal network due to a debt, he ends up becoming a disposable link in the operation. After the theft, conflicts arose over the sharing of the stolen money and the young man became the target of the masterminds of the crime.
According to information later revealed, Seyni was kidnapped and subjected to months of torture in Ivry-sur-Seine. Even after his arrest, the threats and intimidation did not stop. Reports indicate that members of the criminal organization continued to exert psychological pressure on him, including during his detention in Fresnes.
The investigating judge in charge of the case was alerted to the young man’s emotional and physical fragility and the need to transfer him to a safer unit. At the same time, a specific investigation was opened to investigate the allegations of harassment and mistreatment suffered by Seyni in prison. Surveillance camera footage also began to be analyzed, raising doubts about the initial version presented by prison officers.
Seyni’s family disputes the official account and calls for clarification on the circumstances of her death. For loved ones, suicide cannot be analyzed in isolation, but as the result of a process marked by extreme violence, institutional abandonment and a lack of protection for a young person considered at risk.
The case reinforces the series of robberies against PSG players in recent years, a recurring problem in France. Among the victims are names such as Marquinhos, Thiago Silva, Di María, Kimpembe and Mauro Icardi and, above all, the use of young people in vulnerable situations as disposable labor by organized crime.
Ultimately, Seyni became another victim of a mechanism that exploits, tortures and silences, even behind bars.
