Zelensky emphasized the urgency of maintaining international pressure on Russia to achieve peace, a task shared with partner countries in the current negotiating context. This message followed a recent conversation with Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, whose collaboration was at the heart of the dialogue, according to Europa Press. The Ukrainian president noted that European support is crucial at a crucial moment for diplomacy as Ukraine tries to stop the offensive launched by Russia in February 2022 on the orders of Vladimir Putin.
The exchange, which Zelensky described as “very warm and pleasant,” also included thanks to Von der Leyen for her continued support, “not only this year, but since the beginning of the large-scale Russian invasion,” the president wrote on the social network X, quoted by Europa Press. In this communication, both addressed the need to support Ukraine’s resilience and strengthen its position within the framework of active negotiations, in a context where diplomatic talks aim to significantly change the dynamics of the conflict, the media said.
The Ukrainian president stressed that “negotiations are currently taking place that can radically change the situation,” while emphasizing the importance of coordinated pressure with international partners to achieve a peaceful solution. In addition, as Europa Press reported, Zelensky expressed that measures to achieve peace and security do not stop despite the proximity of the end of the year celebrations: “And although everyone is already waiting for Christmas, we do not stop working for a single day for our common goal: to achieve peace and ensure security.”
By mutual agreement, Ursula von der Leyen confirmed that both had exchanged information on the latest progress in peace talks and reiterated the “unbreakable solidarity with the Ukrainian people” that continues even under Russia’s nightly and deadly attacks, Europa Press reported. The President of the European Commission stressed the European Union’s commitment in the face of the offensive that has kept the country in a state of constant conflict since February 2022.
The European Union’s support for Ukraine comes against the backdrop of intensive diplomatic activity to end the Russian invasion. In his message, Zelensky reiterated the need to strengthen Ukrainian positions at the negotiating table and, together with Von der Leyen, agreed to establish new contacts in the following days, Europa Press reported.
The Ukrainian President emphasized that “joint pressure from all international partners” represents an essential element in achieving peace, while the Ukrainian government remains deep in dialogue with key actors on the international stage. The situation, which Zelensky described as “decisive in many ways,” ensures that European diplomacy and Ukraine’s allies are constantly working to change the state of the conflict, strengthen Ukrainian resistance and work toward an agreement that guarantees regional security and stability, Europa Press reports.
