Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is meeting this Sunday (12/14) with American envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner in Berlin, Germany, for a new round of ceasefire negotiations with Russia.
Zelensky arrived this Sunday and met representatives of Donald Trump. According to the Ukrainian president, “there are many important details” to analyze.
Ceasefire
- Last Thursday (11/12), Zelensky presented the United States with a revised 20-point proposal aimed at ending the war with Russia.
- According to him, the United States is proposing as a compromise the creation of a “free economic zone” in the parts of Donbass controlled by Ukraine, such as Donetsk, whose transfer Russia demands. The American proposal provides for the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops to create a buffer zone.
- The Ukrainian president rejected the idea of a unilateral withdrawal from Ukraine in the Donetsk region.
He also stressed the need for Ukraine to receive secure guarantees from the United States:
“The main thing is that all the measures we agree with our partners can really contribute to guaranteed security,” he said before the meeting.
The Ukrainian added that “only reliable guarantees will contribute to peace” and that he hopes to work “constructively” with his partners.

The Ukrainian president also said he would meet separately with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz this Sunday. The meeting comes a day after mutual attacks between Ukraine and Russia.
Ukraine is under increasing pressure from the United States to strike a deal with Russia, which has accelerated its advances on the front line in recent months and renewed its massive attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.
