
The Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelenskytold Axios this Friday (26) that he hopes to reach an agreement with his American counterpart, Donald Trumpon a plan to end the war with Russia during their meeting on Sunday (28). He also revealed that he was prepared to put the peace plan to a referendum if Russia agreed to a ceasefire of at least 60 days.
Zelensky and Trump are scheduled to meet in Florida on Sunday to discuss territorial issues and security guarantees as they seek ways to end Russia’s war in Ukraine.
The Ukrainian president had already signaled that “many things can be decided before the New Year”. The post, made on Telegram and X, follows an update from Rustem Umerov, Ukraine’s top negotiator with the United States and head of the National Defense and Security Council.
Rustem Umerov announced his latest contacts with the American side. “We are not wasting a single day. We have agreed on a meeting at the highest level – with President Trump in the near future. Many things can be decided before the New Year. Glory to Ukraine!”

Although the allies have agreed on most points, several issues remain unresolved, including Ukraine’s opposition to territorial concessions.
Russian newspaper Kommersant claims Putin told some leading businessmen he might consider transferring some territory under the control of Russian forces in Ukraine, but made it clear he wanted all of Donbass.
