Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky assured Thursday that the Ukrainian team was working “tirelessly” to ensure that the documents related to the project of a possible peace agreement in Ukraine are updated. “realistic, efficient and reliable.”
Zelensky spoke on the phone this Thursday with US special envoy Steve Witkoff, and with Jared Kushner, the son-in-law of US President Donald Trump, in a call in which were also present the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, Rustem Umerov, and the Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces, Andrii Hnatov, among others.
“The Head of State expressed his gratitude to the American partners for their constructive and intensive workas well as for his kind words and Christmas wishes to the Ukrainian people. “Volodymir Zelensky also asked the American team to convey his Christmas greetings to Donald Trump and his family,” the Ukrainian presidency said in a statement.
A draft with 20 points
The parties discussed a series of details about the peace process. “Tangible progress has been made in the work on the documents, in particular on security guarantees and economic prosperity,” he said, adding that Umerov will have a further conversation later today with Witkoff and Kushner.
Later, Zelensky assured that it was a “very good” telephone conversation. “We delved into a lot of things; some good ideas came up and we discussed them. We have new ideas in terms of formats, meetings and, of course, deadlines to achieve true peace”he expressed during his evening speech.
The Ukrainian president revealed on Wednesday details of the draft peace plan prepared with the United States to end the war and which is opening the door to the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops deployed in the Donbass region, an offer which conditions Russia to “do the same” with its forces deployed in the region.
The document is a “policy framework” comprising 20 points which has the support of the United States and that he was sent to Moscow. Russian special envoy Kirill Dimitriev briefed President Vladimir Putin on the results of recent talks held in Miami with Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
