Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met this Saturday (12/27) with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, who announced the allocation of $2.5 billion in economic support to Ukraine. This sum will be intended for the reconstruction of the country devastated by the conflict.
Zelensky arrived in Halifax, Canada, this Friday (12/27), for a strategic stopover before traveling to the United States for a meeting with President Donald Trump, scheduled for Sunday (12/28).
Carney called Russia’s attack on Ukraine the day before “barbaric” and stressed the need for international unity to ensure peace and reconstruction.
Thanks for the meeting, Mark! Today I am in Canada, with the Prime Minister @MarkJCarneyas agreed. Together we chat with our friends from Europe. I am grateful for all the support to Ukraine, especially support for air defense.

“The barbaric attack we witnessed last night – the attack on kyiv – shows how important it is to be united with Ukraine in these difficult times. We must create the conditions for a just and lasting peace, as well as support genuine reconstruction,” he said.
Zelensky, in turn, emphasized that the recent Russian attacks were a Russian reaction to kyiv’s peace efforts.
“It is clear that Putin does not want peace. We want peace. He is a man of war, but he is afraid to speak out publicly. We must stop this war at all costs, put pressure on Russia and guarantee strong support for Ukraine,” the Ukrainian said.

Conference with Europeans before meeting Trump
During the visit, Zelensky announced that after the bilateral meeting with Carney, he would hold an online conference with European leaders to align their positions ahead of the summit with Trump. Among the points to be discussed will be the territorial concessions demanded by Moscow, considered essential to end the conflict, and security guarantees for Ukraine.
The Ukrainian leader confirmed that he would present a 20-point peace plan, developed in collaboration with American authorities, and which is already “90% ready”. The document establishes protection mechanisms against further Russian aggression and measures for the reconstruction of the country.
The summit with the Republican takes place in a context of sensitive diplomatic negotiations. Trump has struck a critical tone in recent interviews, saying Zelensky “won’t get anything until I sign off on him,” although he also expressed hope that the meeting would be productive and produce concrete results.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that if Ukraine did not agree to resolve the conflict peacefully, Moscow would carry out “all tasks of the Central Military District by force”, thus strengthening Russia’s unbending position on the territories occupied since 2022.
