Federal District Governor Ibanes Rocha (MDB) said on Wednesday (3/12) that the Zona Verde project will not take off for the time being because the government has not completed the expansion of the rapid transit network. The withdrawal was anticipated by the wide-angle column.
“I did not establish the green zone because we did not complete the rapid bus work,” he said. According to him, despite the renewal of the bus fleet, it is necessary to complete the express bus system at the southern and northern exits of the Defense Forces before the paid parking system is implemented.
After participating in a meeting with businessmen, Ibanes said that the study to implement the green zone has been ready for more than a year and has already been approved by the Court of Accounts (TCDF).
“I think any government official should imagine that in the future we will have to discourage individual transportation to encourage public transportation,” he noted. However, since implementation was conditional on the completion of the new BRT lines, he decided not to go ahead with the project for the time being.
Ibanes explained that the opposition is making a fuss over this issue because of the political moment. He added: “In the future, this agenda (for the Green Zone) will definitely come. With the support of those who criticize it today.” The governor also stressed that the lack of job vacancies has hurt local trade. He warned: “We no longer have parking. Businesses are complaining a lot. Shoppers cannot stop. This is causing stores to close.”
The governor participated in the opening of the 5th Brasilia Summit organized by LEED.
