The animated children’s film “Zootopia 2” reached $1 billion at the global box office, 17 days after its premiere. As a result, the Disney production is the third film of the year to reach this figure, the others being the live-action “Lilo & Stitch”, with $1.03 billion, also from Disney, and the Chinese animation “Ne Zha 2”, with $1.9 billion, the biggest of the year so far.
“Zootopia 2” also became the fastest R-rated film to reach this milestone. “Fast and Furious 7” also took 17 days to reach $1 billion in 2015.
The film grossed $232.7 million in the United States and $753.4 million worldwide, including $430 million in China alone, where the film became a rare phenomenon. There, production is second only to “Avengers: Endgame,” which grossed $632 million in the Asian country. The first “Zootopia” also had a big impact in the country, but the franchise was catapulted with the opening of a themed area at Shanghai Disney Park.
In Brazil, Ancine data shows the film has grossed more than 48 million reais since its November 27 premiere.
