A fire broke out in the basement of Shopping Tijuca, north of Rio de Janeiro (RJ), this Friday (2). According to firefighters, four victims were treated and transported to hospital services, including one in serious condition. The fire was brought under control, but professionals were still working on site this morning.
According to firefighters, the Tijuca barracks, responsible for the area, were called to the scene at 6:28 p.m. Around 13 vehicles and 40 firefighters were dispatched to the scene.
The fire reached a difficult-to-access area of the building’s basement, which required, according to a note from the CBMERJ, specialized technical intervention and the use of mechanical ventilation equipment to disperse the smoke. The victims were transported to the Souza Aguiar Municipal Hospital and the UPA (Emergency Care Unit) of Tijuca.
In recordings posted on X (formerly Twitter) about the fire, it is possible to see smoke caused by the fire in the premises and customers leaving in a hurry.
The teams continued, even in the early hours of this Saturday (3), to work on the fights, to ventilate the environment and to sweep the internal areas. It is not yet possible to determine the cause of the fire.
The establishment has already suffered a fire in December 2024, in one of the stores on the second floor of the site.
