Former President Jair Bolsonaro was medically released today, the 1st, and left DF Star Hospital shortly after 6:40 p.m. The former Chief Executive must now return to the Federal Police Headquarters in Brasilia to continue serving the 27-year prison sentence he was sentenced to for the coup organized under his government in 2022.
Bolsonaro left the hospital in an unmarked PF vehicle. A few minutes earlier, former first lady Michele Bolsonaro also left the scene. The vehicle was accompanied by scouts from the Federal District military police.
Previously, Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Supreme Federal Court (STF), had rejected a new request for humanitarian house arrest against the former president. When evaluating the request, Minister Alexandre de Moraes considered that the defense did not present “occurring facts which could exclude” the reasons for its continued under closed regime.
The minister also stressed that, “contrary to what was claimed by the defense”, Bolsonaro’s state of health did not worsen, but rather there was a “clinical picture of improvement in the discomfort he felt, after carrying out new elective surgical interventions”.
Bolsonaro was admitted to DF Star Hospital on Christmas Eve, with Moraes’ agreement, to undergo his eighth surgery the next day since 2018, when he suffered a knife attack during the election campaign. The surgical procedure was to treat an inguinal hernia.
The former president also underwent a series of procedures on his phrenic nerve, in an effort to alleviate his recurring bouts of hiccups.
