Authoritarians don’t like that
The practice of professional and critical journalism is a mainstay of democracy. That is why it bothers those who believe that they are the owners of the truth.
Argentina considers that these events represent a decisive step forward against the narco-terrorism that plagues the region, while at the same time opening a phase that will allow the Venezuelan people to fully restore democracy, the rule of law and respect for human rights, in accordance with the principles of international law, and to put an end to years of oppression by the authoritarian regime.
In this sense, the Argentine Government hopes and supports that this new situation will finally allow the authorities legally elected by the Venezuelan people in the 2024 elections, including the elected President Edmundo González Urrutia, to exercise their constitutional mandate in accordance with the popular will expressed in the elections and the democratic norms in force, which also confirms the leadership role of María Corina Machado, Nobel Peace Prize laureate, in the defense of democracy and freedom in Venezuela highlights.
The Argentine Republic reaffirms to the international community its firm commitment and full readiness to achieve, by all means at its disposal, the full restoration of institutions, democracy and the rule of law in Venezuela, while guaranteeing at all times the freedom, human dignity and well-being of the Venezuelan fraternal people.
Finally, the Argentine Republic recalls that the Venezuelan regime is internationally responsible for the physical integrity and personal safety of the Argentine citizen Nahuel Gallo, who is in a situation of arbitrary detention and enforced disappearance, in violation of its international human rights obligations, and reiterates its call for his immediate release.
