The government of Castile-La Mancha blamed the drop in unemployment, the highest in Spainto economic growth, business creation and active employment policies implemented. This is what the Director General of Employment said, … Elena García, who estimated that the region is the autonomous community in which unemployment has decreased the most in the last year after registering in December the lowest unemployment figure for this month since 2007, also consolidating the highest employment data for a month of December and the second best for any month in the entire historical series, only behind the month of July 2025. Elena García analyzed in a press conference the data on registered unemployment and social security affiliation corresponding to the month of December, data which shows that “In Castile-La Mancha, unemployment fell by 984 people last month0.84 percent, and the number of Social Security affiliates increased by 3,018 jobs in the last month, or 0.37 percent, which places it as the third autonomous community in increasing affiliation.
The general director highlighted that the region closed the year with 116,808 unemployed, highlighting the figure of female unemployment with 1,319 fewer unemployed women, or 1.71 percent.
Likewise, “the month of December has traditionally had an unfavorable seasonality in recorded unemployment but, in recent years, the trend has changed, fundamentally due to a greater impact on the labor market of the Christmas campaign”, especially linked to sectors such as commerce, hospitality or logistics, said the general director, who clarified that unemployment was reduced in the agricultural sectors by 125 people; the Services sector in 881 people; and the group of people without previous employment in 417 people; but, however, it increased in construction by 378 people and in industry by 61 people.
Unemployment also records a decrease in all provinces of Albacete with 160 fewer unemployed, 0.76 percent; Ciudad Real with 303 fewer inhabitants, or 0.97 percent; Cuenca with 160 fewer inhabitants, 1.75 percent, Guadalajara with 24 fewer inhabitants, 0.2 percent, and Toledo, with 337 fewer inhabitants, 0.76 percent.
In annual terms, the general director indicated that Castilla-La Mancha records a drop of 8.58 percent, “with 10,958 fewer unemployed people in the region today than a year ago, which constitutes the largest annual drop in unemployment in the last two years, and placing Castilla-La Mancha as the autonomous community in which unemployment has decreased the most in the last year.”
The evolution of unemployment in the month of December also has a direct impact on the behavior of affiliation to Social Security, which shows an increase of 3,018 people compared to the previous month, which represents the highest total number of affiliates for the month of December and the second in the entire historical series after the month of July of that same year, with a total of 810,304 people. “Never before have we had more than 800,000 people affiliated to Social Security in the month of December,” declared the director general.
Regarding membership, in annual comparison there was an increase of 20,963 people, or 2.66 percent, which places Castilla-La Mancha as the fifth autonomous community in terms of increase in the number of adherents over the last year.
3.5M for permanent contracts
THE Director General of Employment has brought forward the publication in the DOCM next Wednesday, January 7, of the call for permanent hiring, endowed with 3.5 million euros to promote stable and quality employment in Castile-La Mancha.
The general manager detailed that This aid is aimed at groups with low employability such as the long-term unemployed, those over 45, young people and low-skilled women; and it also targets vulnerable groups and groups underrepresented in the labor market, such as women working in the technology sector or in management positions.
The aid will remain open from the day after the publication of the call for DOCM and until November 30, 2026, contracts can be concluded until next October.
