Rio’s civil police on Friday arrested a man convicted of torturing his own son. Jonathan Clayton Ferreira was found in a residence in Sepetiba, in the western area of the capital, by agents of the Computer Crime Repression Commission (DRCI). The attacks took place in 2021, when the child was only 1 year old.

In September of the same year, the baby arrived at the Sepetiba Emergency Care Unit (UPA) with three broken ribs and bruises on his back, legs and head. Due to the seriousness of his state of health, he had to be transferred to the Albert Schweitzer Municipal Hospital, in Realengo, where he was hospitalized.
According to civil police, at the time, relatives reported that the man had kicked and stepped on the child. And this was not an isolated case. The family revealed a history of abuse by the father, with several episodes before the baby’s birth. In one of them, the attacker burned his son with a red-hot spoon.
— The Computer Crime Repression Commission (DRCI) has a permanent operation, started in October 2023, called Operation Secure Network. In short, people with outstanding arrest warrants are searched, monitored and located via the World Wide Web. Once identified and located, we seek to comply with the court order. This is how we arrived in Jonathan — explains delegate Luiz Lima Ramos Filho.
Also in September 2021, Jonathan was arrested in the act, for the heinous crime of torture, a detention which was transformed into preventive by the courts. However, a few months later, the previously accused person was granted the right to respond freely in the case.
Then, after the final and final conviction, he changed his address to the Sepetiba district, without even informing his family, and did not show up to begin serving his sentence, having since then been on the run.
Found in his new residence, in Sepetiba, Jonathan did not resist his arrest and was sent to the prison system.
— The importance of the prison is multifaceted. Firstly, obviously, this generates a feeling of security and justice. As a result, this puts an end to the feeling of impunity for the barbaric crimes committed. But that’s not all. The incarceration of the perpetrator certainly prevents further violence, given that he is a new person with a personality focused on acts of violence — the delegate underlines.
The final sentence of Jonathan Clayton Ferreira was four years and eight months in prison, in a closed regime. Handed down on June 2, 2023, the sentence was signed by Judge Marcelo Alberto Chaves Villas, of the 2nd Criminal Court, Santa Cruz District.
Before the final judgment, the sentence was set at three years, one month and ten days, but the court accepted a request from the prosecution to increase the sentence.
“The guilt of the accused deserves greater condemnation, because he acted with intense intent, using excessive violence, causing several injuries to the victim, his one-year-old only son, such as rib fractures, injuries to internal organs and several bruises. The consequences of the crime are not favorable to them, since the child was seriously injured and had to remain hospitalized for about a week,” an excerpt from the judgment states.
