Lawyer Jeffrey Chiquini, who defends the former advisor to ex-President Jair Bolsonaro, Filipe Martins, arrested this Friday (1/2), declared that his client is a “political prisoner” and another “persecuted by this authoritarian regime”.
Watch the video:
Martins had been under house arrest since December 27 and wore an electronic ankle bracelet. He was taken to Ponta Grossa prison (PR). The order comes from Minister of the Federal Court (STF) Alexandre de Moraes.
“The fact is that today Alexandre de Moraes has put into practice what he wanted since 2019. Felipe Martins is officially a political prisoner, yet another persecuted by this authoritarian regime that has settled in Brazil. But we are not going to throw in the towel, we are going to continue to fight, to fight for justice and freedom,” Chiquini stressed.
He added that prison “is nothing more than a measure of revenge and anticipation of serving the sentence if convicted, although appeals against the conviction are still possible.”
“It was like that with Bolsonaro, it was like that with the other people found guilty of the coup farce and today it was like that with Felipe Martins. Brazil sees that there is no legal procedure here,” Chiquini explained.

Filipe Martins’ defense denies using social media cited by Moraes
Tuesday (30/12), Moraes asked Filipe’s defense to explain the use of the Linkedin account, under penalty of pre-trial detention.
Martins was sentenced to 21 years in prison during the Nuclear 2 trial. He was banned from using social media. Bolsonaro’s former International Affairs aide was under house arrest on December 26, after the escape and arrest of the former director of the Federal Highway Police, Silvinei Vasques.
Martins was accused by the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) of managing the actions of the criminal organization that sought to keep Bolsonaro in power.
“Today this arrest of Felipe Martins is not because of something he did, but because of who he is. Felipe Martins, today, the second day of the year, January 2, 2026, was arrested because he is Felipe Martins, because the arrest order has no reason,” the lawyer emphasized.
Chiquini said he would meet with the defense to decide on the next steps, but added that he intended to appeal to Minister Moraes.
Prison
In addition to house arrest, Martins is expected to follow the precautionary measures imposed by Moraes, which include the surrender of his passport, suspension of firearms possession, ban on visits other than those of lawyers and the use of social media.
According to the order of Alexandre de Moraes, a complaint was received on December 29, added to the file, according to which the former presidential advisor had used Linkedin to search the profiles of other people. The defense had 24 hours to comment on the case.
