Fluminense announced this Thursday (1/1) the renewal of goalkeeper Fábio, 45 years old. The archer, who had a contract until 2026, signed a new contract, now valid until December 2027.
This will in fact be Fábio’s sixth season in the French goal. Hired in 2022 after leaving Cruzeiro, the goalkeeper quickly gained space at Fluzão, becoming an idol. He won the Carioca 2023, the Libertadores of the same year and also the Recopa Sul-Americana 2024 with the Laranjeiras team. Currently there are 261 matches with the Fluminense jersey.
Thanks to the flu, it reached historic milestones. After all, he became the player with the most official matches in football history, surpassing fellow archer Peter Shilton, who played 1,390 career matches. The milestone was reached on August 20, 2025, during a match against América de Cali (COL), in Sul-Americana.
Additionally, he was nominated for FIFA’s ‘The Best’ award, competing for the 2025 Team of the Year. He was one of Fluminense’s highlights during the United States’ Club World Cup campaign. On this occasion, Tricolor did well, only stopping future champion Chelsea (ING) in the semi-final.
