Hired in 2022, after a well-established career at Cruzeiro, Fábio quickly became a key player at Fluminense. In four seasons for the club, he played 261 matches and was a direct part of one of the most successful periods in the Tricolor’s recent history.
It was with the Flu jersey that the goalkeeper won the most important title of his career: the Conmebol Libertadores 2023, in addition to the Recopa Sul-Americana 2024 and the Carioca Championships 2022 and 2023.
The renewal comes after a remarkable year also on an individual level. In 2025, Fábio overtook Englishman Peter Shilton and became the athlete with the most official matches in the history of football, surpassing the mark of 1,390 career matches.
His high-level performance has also earned him international recognition: the goalkeeper was nominated for The Best FIFA 2025 award, competing for a place in the Team of the Year, after standing out during Fluminense’s campaign at the Club World Cup, hosted in the United States.
Internally, it is believed that Fábio’s longevity can be explained by the professionalism, consistency and leadership exercised within the team. Since his arrival at Laranjeiras, the goalkeeper has assumed a central role not only on the pitch, but also in the dressing room, being a reference for young athletes.
