A man was arrested by the National Police in the Ciudad del Campo sector, in the municipality of Palmira, Valle del Cauca, for his alleged responsibility for the crime of discharging a firearm with a deadly projectile or unjustified shots into the air, provided for in Article 356A of the Colombian Penal Code.
The procedure was carried out in the early hours of January 1, as part of the control and surveillance measures carried out by units of the CAI Ciudad del Campo as part of the constant measures to ensure the security of citizens in the area.

According to the official report The detection was possible thanks to the continuous monitoring of the video surveillance system installed in the sectorwhich made it possible to observe a person handling a firearm and firing shots into the air on public streets.
The images captured by the cameras were analyzed by the surveillance center, which immediately alerted the corresponding quadrant. Parallel to that Police received calls from the community reporting the situation and requesting the presence of authorities.
Based on this information, the uniformed officers immediately went to the specified location to investigate the matter and take appropriate action.

When they arrived on site, police units began searching the person. A Córdoba brand 9 mm caliber firearm and 9 mm caliber ammunition were found in the suspect’s possession.
According to the authorities, the citizen was caught in the act and informed of the reason for his arrest in accordance with applicable regulations.
Major Jonathan Hernández Carrero, deputy commander of the Palmira Police Station, explained that the timely response was possible thanks to the institution’s technological support.
“Thanks to the video surveillance system, a person is observed manipulating a firearm and firing shots into the air. The force immediately arrived at the scene, conducted the search and found the weapon in their possession,” the officer said.
The authorities recalled that Article 356A of the Colombian Penal Code punishes any person who unjustifiably shoots into the air. even if you have a permit to carry or possess firearmsas this behavior poses a threat to the life and integrity of third parties.

The uniformed officer added that the surveillance cameras made it possible to clearly show the behavior of the captured person, which facilitated immediate intervention by police personnel.
The captured man, along with the confiscated firearm and ammunition, It was made available to the Attorney General’s Office, which has taken over the case and will be responsible for conducting the relevant legal proceedings and determining the legal situation.
