A short sentence in one of the notes in which Minister Alexandre de Moraes denies having had conversations about the Master affair with the president of the BC, Gabriel Galípolo, attracts attention. The sentence reads as follows: “Finally, (the minister) specifies that his wife’s law firm never intervened in the acquisition of BRB-Master before the Central Bank. »

Viviane Barci de Moraes, head of the office, has not made any statement about her activities in this matter, since columnist Malu Gaspar revealed the existence of a million dollar contract with Banco Master. Vast in scope, the contract provided for collaboration with several institutions, including the Central Bank.

So here we already have not one, but two facts that attract attention. It is first of all the husband, minister of the STF, who provides information on the activity of his wife’s office. It is obvious that Moraes cannot be his wife’s partner in this matter.
Second, the Master’s most important case – which threatened his existence – concerned precisely the supervision of the BC, which ended up liquidating Daniel Vorcaro’s bank. But Viviane Barci was not involved, as we learned not from her, but from a message from her husband.
The Attorney General of the Republic, Paulo Gonet, affirms that there is no illegality in the contract between Viviane Barci’s office and Banco Master. Let’s say that the thesis is debatable, but the PGR press release formally confirms the existence of the contract.
The first information from journalist Malu Gaspar was therefore accurate. But the editorialist adds that Moraes put pressure on the president of British Columbia in favor of Banco Master. Other journalists have repeated the same basic narrative, with nuanced differences.
Moraes denies it. He said he was with Galípolo to discuss the effects of the Magnistiki law. The president of the BC, in a very short note, confirmed these meetings. But he did not deny the existence of other meetings and/or telephone calls, which would relate to the Master affair.
On the other hand, Galípolo indicated that all movements in British Columbia are recorded and documented. So it’s easy to know where the truth lies. Especially since the president of the BC made himself personally available to the organizations responsible for investigating the liquidation of the Master.
The problem is that another minister of the Supreme Court, Dias Toffoli, kept the whole matter under wraps. But what case exactly?
From what little is known, it appears that Toffoli wants to know whether the BC took too long to investigate the fraud in the Master’s activities and therefore acted late.
Stranger circumstances appear here. Why didn’t Toffoli call Galípolo to provide him with the information? The minister preferred to summon the director of inspection of British Columbia, Ailton de Aquino, apparently a weak link and who does not know the whole story, like the president of British Columbia, including the pressures exerted by politicians.
On the other hand, a minister of the Federal Court of Auditors, Jonathan de Jesus, former deputy of Centrão, joined the file. If Toffoli would be interested to know if the BC was late, the TCU minister considers that the liquidation of the Master is rushed.
In any case, the result of the two processes would be the same: the cancellation of the liquidation, the return of the Master to Daniel Vorcaro and a possible sanction of the directors of BC. And a huge negative impact on the financial system.
Who would be interested in this? Vorcaro, of course, and a wide range of politicians and government officials who did business with the Master.
The Master affair is, by far, the greatest disaster in the financial system. Possible fraud and inappropriate operations exceed tens of billions of reais. And they put on the table issues as crucial as the relationships between STF ministers and the law firms of spouses and relatives.
In the 2026 inaugural address, Chief Justice Edson Fachin said the judiciary must promote transparency to gain the trust of society.
Trust is lost with inappropriate relationships between judges, all in secret. And when something leaks, it’s embarrassing.
