Legendary Queen guitarist Sir Brian May has admitted it’s “hard to enjoy anything” without good health in a heartfelt New Year’s message to his Instagram followers. The 78-year-old rocker and astrophysicist has faced several health issues in recent years, including a “scary” stroke in August 2024.

Speaking to his 3.6 million social media followers, he shared an animated illustration of himself smiling and playing guitar while his song “New Horizons” played in the background.
“Hello, dear friends!!! Here are my wishes for a great New Year – new horizons – new opportunities – new dreams – new challenges – new achievements!!! And good health,” he wrote. “Because without it it is difficult to enjoy anything (…) But the FUTURE is still there!!! Let’s find it!!! HAPPY NEW YEAR to all creatures! Including YOU!!!”
In an interview with Alan Titchmarsh’s Love Your Weekend in November 2025, Brian May revealed: “I’ve been through a lot, and the stroke was one of them. These things happen, but it seems like I can recover. They serve as a wake-up call.”
Just a week after the stroke, which he called a “little health issue,” Brian confirmed that he was able to play guitar again, although he initially lost control of one of his arms. The musician also suffered a heart attack in 2020.
After ruling out the possibility that it was simply a gardening accident, Brian now admits that he “could have died.” After the scare, he underwent an angioplasty with the implantation of three stents, which facilitated his recovery.
