Argentine President Javier Milei expressed this Saturday his support for the military operation of the United States in Venezuela and celebrated the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, according to former US President Donald Trump.
Through her social networks, Milei published the message: “Freedom advances. Long live damn freedom”, alluding to the military action confirmed by Trump on his Truth Social platform. There, the Republican leader assured that Maduro “was captured and flown out of the country with his wife” and announced that more details would be announced at a press conference at Mar-a-Lago.
Security Minister Patricia Bullrich echoed the Argentine president’s comments, writing in X: “Venezuela will be free.”
The announcement came after massive explosions were recorded in Caracas in the early hours of Saturday. Neighbors reported the sounds of planes flying over the city, and videos were shared on social media showing columns of smoke in various parts of the Venezuelan capital. Air strikes as well as power outages and movements of military helicopters were also reported at the military bases of La Carlota and Fuerte Tiuna.
Chaos in Venezuela
In the midst of the operation, there were chaotic scenes, numerous vehicles attempted to leave the affected areas and security forces arrested civilians on public streets. Similar reports came from La Guaira, where detonations were also heard.
Days ago, Milei called for regional condemnation of the Venezuelan government during the Mercosur summit. In his speech, he described the Maduro regime as “a cruel and inhumane dictatorship” and claimed that Venezuela is experiencing “a devastating political, humanitarian and social crisis.”
Likewise, the Argentine president expressed his support for international pressure from the United States, called for the release of political prisoners and complained about the situation of the Argentine citizen Nahuel Gallo, imprisoned in Venezuela. He also emphasized the international recognition of opposition leader María Corina Machado and reiterated his call to respect the will of the Venezuelan people.
