The Caixa Econômica Federal (CEF) drew, this Thursday (1/1), the largest lottery prize in Brazil, 1.09 billion reais. In total, six bets matched six tens and each paid out a whopping 181.8 million reais.
Although no tickets have been distributed in the Federal District, some lucky people in the capital have already matched all the numbers drawn during the previous six Mega da Virada competitions.
The winning tickets were drawn during the years 2009, 2011, 2014, 2018 and 2024. Added together, the bets guaranteed a jackpot of R$338.5 million for the DF, making the Federal Unit (UF) the sixth in the entire country to win the most six numbers in the history of the competition.
The first winning ticket of the Mega da Virada in DF won more than R$72 million, or almost half of the total prize, valued at around R$150 million. The winning bet shared the prize with another São Paulo ticket.
The second winning bet took place in 2011: a single game guaranteed the lucky winner 35 million reais. Three years later, in 2014, another single ticket from the capital matched all six numbers and guaranteed a prize of 65 million reais.

In 2018, the capital once again had a winner. On this occasion, the winning bet shared the prize with 51 tickets matching all six numbers. This was the draw with the highest number of winners in the history of the competition, and each winner received approximately 6 million reais.
And only after six years, DF won again, in the 2024 draw. There were two winning bets, both with jackpots. One of them owned three shares, guaranteeing more than 26 million reais to each lucky person. The other, with 30 shares, brought in around R$2.5 million for each participant.
Mega da Virada draw
The competition draw was scheduled for this Wednesday (12/31) at 10 p.m., maintaining the tradition that the prize is announced on the last day of the year.
However, the value of the prize generated an unprecedented movement in the betting channels: there were 120 thousand transactions per second on the digital channel and almost 4.8 thousand transactions per second in lottery units.
As a result, the draw took place on Thursday morning (1/1).
In total, six bets matched six tens. Three of them were carried out at lottery points in the following cities:
- João Pessoa (PB), single bet;
- Ponta Porã (MS), swimming pool (10 shares);
- Franco da Rocha (SP), jackpot (18 shares).
The other three winning bets were made via the Loterias Caixa portal or the Loterias Caixa app.
Caixa reported that this year’s value is 57% higher than that paid in 2024 at Mega da Virada. That year, 635.4 million reais were distributed among the eight winners.
