Data miners found references to the Switch 2 in the game’s latest content update
Following the December update for Monster Hunter Wilds, a group of Chinese data miners found information pointing to a possible version of the game for Switch 2.
One of these details involves a function called “via.store.Native.nsw2UpgradeEdition”, where “nsw2” likely refers to the Switch 2. Additionally, several other game code snippets have been found with various references to the platform, including a local multiplayer mode (via GamingBolt).
To be able to bring Monster Hunter Wilds to Switch 2, Capcom would have to implement several changes to improve the game’s performance on the Nintendo console. Apparently, this involves reducing the distance at which NPCs appear on screen and also reducing the number of small creatures that live in the game world, with data mining indicating that they will appear five times less frequently compared to other platforms.
It has been noted that these changes involving the game’s endemic life are not necessarily a Switch 2-related feature and could be planned for the upcoming January update for the PC version of the game. The title will also feature new DLSS presets that will give players more performance options.
Finally, the Monster Hunter Wilds data miners have shared a video showing a simulation of how the game may work in the Switch 2’s handheld mode.
