The Civil Guard of Costa Teguise (Lanzarote) arrested nine people, eight in Lanzarote and one in the south of Gran Canaria, for continuous fraud, money laundering and belonging to a criminal organization using renowned private clinic from Costa Teguise, … that she is also being investigated for possible reckless homicide in the death of a foreign tourist.
The operation called “Jipijapa” thus culminates with the investigation opened after a complaint filed on February 19, 2024 at the Main Post Office of Costa Teguise, which warned against alleged health irregularities clerk in the said medical center. From that moment, the Civil Guard began the appropriate procedures to clarify the facts and verify the authenticity of what was reported.
In the following months, the agents gathered sufficient evidence that motivated the request to the Court of Instruction No. 1 of Arrecife for authorization of entry and registration both in the clinic and in another company linked to it located in Madrid. During these searches, carried out with the collaboration of EDITE specialists of the UOTPJ of the Civil Guard of Las Palmas, a large quantity of documentation and electronic devices were seized.
Analysis of the seized documents led investigators to discover new crimes linked to scams against travel insurance companies, both domestic and foreign. These practices would be organized according to a hierarchical structure in which each member played a key role, with a complex operating mode that was difficult to detect due to the closed nature of the group.
During the investigation, the Civil Guard arrested nine agents of the health center, some of whom are also under investigation by a possible crime of reckless homicide in connection with the death of a foreign tourist.
From September 2024, the actions carried out by the Civil Guard of Costa Teguise with the support of the UOPJ of Las Palmas, required the collaboration of various police units, both nationally and internationally, and contact with many foreign insurers distributed throughout Europe, North America and South America. Several of them, after becoming aware of the progress of the operation, appeared in the file as injured parties.
Thanks to this cooperation and the work of the agents, it was possible to identify and arrest all members of the organization. The proceedings were transferred to the Arrecife Custodial Court for further legal proceedings.
