Yannick Nézet-Séguin will take over on January 1st to welcome 2026 with the traditional New Year’s Concert given by the Vienna Philharmonic since 1941, when a recital took place for the first time which … is most anticipated by culture and art lovers, especially fans classical music. The stage is again the Great Hall, also known as the Golden Hall, of the Musical Society, the Musikvereinlocated in the heart of the Austrian capital.
As indicated in this information, for which it is already the 86 edition, the program will be rounded with five pieces never performed at this event, including two by female composers. In our country you can enjoy through La 1RTVE Play and TVE International Europe. Also on RNE and Radio Clásica, with comments from Martín Llade. The public in our country will thus join that of the rest of the world, being part of the more than 50 million viewers who are expected to follow this program. New Year’s concert in Vienna on television and streaming. Llade is back at the helm for his ninth stint as commentator, having succeeded José Luis Pérez de Arteaga.
Program for the New Year’s concert in Vienna 2026
The meeting will begin with the opening from the operetta “Indigo and the Forty Thieves”. Then, two of the five new pieces which will be heard for the first time in this recital at the start of the year: the waltz ‘Tales of the Danube’, by Carl Michael Ziehrer, the polka ‘Brausteufelchen’, by Eduard Strauss, and ‘Malapou-Galoppe’, by Joseph Lanner.
Daniel Froschauer, conductor of the Vienna Philharmonicthe idea is to produce a “varied and lively” program. This is why there will be no shortage of classical reminders with works such as “The Blue Danube”, by Johann Strauss Jr., and the “Radetzky March”, by Strauss Sr., which will provide the final touch. Before arriving at the end, two other of the most striking new releases, the works of two composers which will be performed in the second part of the evening: ‘Songs of Mermaids’, by Josephine Weinlich, and ‘Rainbow’, by Florence Price.
