Caio Paulista left Atlético Mineiro and will play for Grêmio in 2026
Grêmio confirmed the signing of the left-back Caio Paulista for the 2026 season. The player belongs to Palmeiras and arrives at Porto Alegre on a one-year loan, with a purchase option provided for in the contract at the end of the contract.
Caio Paulista cost Palmeiras 19 million reais, who bought him at the end of 2023 to give him a “hat” in São Paulo, the club to which the athlete was on loan that season.
The 27-year-old hasn’t done much for the team. He has not even convinced the technical staff, and even less the supporters, to the point that he will begin his second consecutive loan. Here again, the loan contract is for a period of one year. He is linked to Palmeiras until the end of 2028.
In 2025, Caio Paulista defended Atlético Mineiro, without shining. Despite his frequent presence in the group, he did not establish himself as an absolute starter and ended the year with a discreet participation in offensive terms. There were 36 matches, most of them from the bench, and one assist.
The player can play on the left flank, but has also been used in other roles, as a winger for example, which broadens the coaching staff’s options.
Revealed professionally by Avaí, Caio Paulista began his career at Santa Catarina and was part of the state champion team in 2019. His performance caught the attention of Fluminense, where he initially played on loan before being acquired permanently.
In 2023, the full-back played for São Paulo, a season in which he participated in the Copa do Brasil title campaign. At the start of the following year, he was permanently traded to Palmeiras, but he was unable to perform well, leading to him being ignored by coach Abel Ferreira.
The player has already reported to Grêmio and started pre-season work. The tricolor team will make its debut in the Campeonato Gaúcho on January 10, away, against Avenida.
