Two iconic Patagonian cities, Bariloche and El Bolsón, face a “very high” risk of wildfires in the first days of 2026 due to the dry and hot climate. For this reason, authorities are calling for extreme caution to prevent fires from breaking out.
The government of Río Negro, according to the latest daily report from the Forest Fire Prevention and Fighting Service (Splif), indicated that in the coming days Bariloche and El Bolsón will be two cities that could be affected by fire outbreaks in different areas, according to the Noticias Argentinas agency.
In Bariloche, the danger index is very high and on Thursday a fire was recorded at the Ñireco wall, where four mobiles with ten fighters went and air support was requested. Volunteer firefighters and civil defense were also involved in the operation.
Authoritarians don’t like that
The practice of professional and critical journalism is a mainstay of democracy. That is why it bothers those who believe that they are the owners of the truth.
In El Bolsón the danger index is also very high, while in the General Conesa-Guardia Miter region it becomes extreme.
In this context, a team from the Forest Fire Prevention and Fighting Service traveled to the Alto Chubut area to assist in extinguishing a forest fire, while in parallel preventive tours were carried out in emergency shelters and sectors far from the urban area.
Given this scenario, cooperation with neighbors and tourists was called for to prevent the spread of fires, which is why, during the duration of the fire emergency in Río Negro, “it is prohibited to light fires outdoors without authorization in forests, mountains, paths, banks of rivers, lakes and streams, as well as in public spaces or natural areas.”
Failure to comply with these measures can result in heavy fines.
