Former full-back Roberto Carlos, 52, was released this Friday (2) and left the Vila Nova Star hospital, in São Paulo, where he had been hospitalized since December 29 after undergoing heart surgery.
“I would like to thank the entire medical team for their attention, care and monitoring during this period,” the former player wrote on a social network.
World champion with the Brazilian team in 2002, Roberto first went to the medical service to carry out routine examinations, when a coronary obstruction was detected, with an indication for angioplasty.
The procedure was performed the same day, without complications, according to the hospital. On the Internet, the former full-back, who played for Palmeiras, Real Madrid and Corinthians, denied having suffered a heart attack, as reported by the Spanish newspaper As.
“I underwent a preventive medical procedure, previously planned with my medical team. The procedure was successful and I am fine. I did not have a heart attack,” he explained.
Roberto Carlos retired from football in 2012 before a brief return in 2015 to the Indian league. He had already experienced health problems this year and had to postpone a promotional visit to Nepal in April due to a “sudden illness”.
