The Segovia City Council has expressed its “deep concern” about the disobedience of some local police personnel which, in some cases, “borders on contempt”. Furthermore, he considers it “inadmissible” that certain agents of this armed and hierarchical body have … has decided not to respect the express service orders to cover the police reinforcements which have been decreed by the Town Hall in order to guarantee public safety, particularly during the massive events planned for these Christmas dates.
The Consistory expressed its dissatisfaction with the fact that On the ‘Tardebuen’ there was a “partial” presence of the agents who had been summonedwhich forced the reorganization of services and checkpoints, a situation that was repeated on the afternoon of December 31 with the celebration of the popular “San Silvestre” race.
The Town Hall denounced the events committed by some of the staff “who have led to a confrontational attitude which, in some cases, borders on contempt“and, although he expressed his respect for the right of protest of all workers and recognizes the legitimacy of worker demands that may exist, in this case, in the police collective, he considers that the sPublic safety “is a primary good and any situation that could violate it is neither negotiable nor acceptable.”
In this sense, he stressed that disobedience to “direct” orders from municipal authorities and police commanders appears in the Police Regulations as “very serious” facts which “cannot remain unanswered”.
The City Hall clarified that during these festivities, thousands of residents and visitors gather in the streets, a situation that requires the establishment of “appropriate” security devices with police reinforcements to guarantee the integrity of all people and the normal development of the events scheduled at specific points, while maintaining regular services in the rest of Segovia.
However, he stressed that, “unfortunately”, in the security system of the Good afternoonDuring the day of December 24, there was a partial presence of the agents, although they were summoned by order of the mayor, which forced them to reorganize the checkpoints and “endanger” the complete coverage of the necessary operation.
“Despite the repeated demands and after ensuring the communication of work orders to the agents who had the obligation to provide the services, the serious situation created on the afternoon of the 24th was repeated during the celebration of the popular race of San Silvestre,” explained the City Hall. He also criticized the fact that, during the farewell afternoon of the year, “due to the non-compliance with orders by a large part of the agents, which caused security levels would be significantly reduced for citizens and for the police themselves who fulfilled their obligations.”
The Consistory emphasized that these events generated a “a significant feeling of worry” among citizens to whom the Municipal Government is no stranger, who considers “unacceptable” that the attitude of certain police officers calls into question the safety of their own colleagues and the obligatory respect of orders issued by police commanders, the local police chief and the town hall.
The government team reiterated its firm commitment to the security of the citizens of Segovia and reaffirmed that the provision of services that guarantee order and protection of people “Does not admit attitudes that could hinder or paralyze said services.”
Likewise, he clarified that His intention was always to “resolve this conflict, not make it worse.”This is why he maintains his desire to initiate a dialogue to address the union issues which are at the origin of the demands. However, he warned that these conversations could only resume normally “when the pressure measures which interfere with the provision of the essential public service cease”.
The Municipal Council also expresses its concern about the drift of this protest “in which some of its leaders have put simple personal interests at the center of the protests” and which it also considers “They encourage their colleagues not to respect orders arising from a protected sick leave situation”which he believes shifts the burden of consequences onto his own colleagues.
Finally, the municipal government expressed its thank you to the Local Police officers who fulfilled their obligations and participated in extraordinary security measures. “Their responsibility and commitment to Segovian society demonstrates the importance of a strengthened security force, united and committed to the protection and well-being of the entire population,” he added.
