The judge decreed the entry into temporary prison of the parricide ham of Fuenmayor (La Rioja, 3,300 inhabitants) to whom he attributes the crime of homicide for the death of his priest in the afternoon of Nochevieja after having witnessed how his mother was beaten with an iron bar. The 54-year-old father had a history of abuse and the Civil Guard attributed “continuous violence” against his mother and children, who feared for his life.
The police action began at 5:30 p.m., on the last day of the year 2025, after the Civil Guard received a call warning that a minor had left his home, located at number 9 Veracruz Street, asking for help and an ambulance.
Officers located a dead man at the back of the building, who suffered several blows to the head, next to his wife and three children, those with minors. In the house there will also be several objects that researchers will analyze if they were used to cause death.
According to the research, the deceased allegedly displayed a “hostile, belligerent and aggressive attitude towards his partner, even when he attacked him with a barrage of force”. Mayor Hijo intervenes to hear the screams and blows his mother receives. Intending to protect her, he raised a knife and faced his father, who had another with his brothers. The escalation of violence ended when he dealt his priest a blow that caused his death. The investigation reveals that he acted in this way to protect his family “while fearing for the integrity of his mother and his brothers”.
The Civil Guard maintains that this success has its origins in a case of “continuous gender violence”. Indeed, the victim had a history of abuse. His wife appeared in the Viogen system until 2012, when the couple decided to resume living together and this order remained inactive. “The woman suffered continuous mistreatment, even though she did not dare to report it out of fear,” the investigation indicates.
Episodes of gender-based violence have been revisited in recent months and have had repercussions on the mother and her children. “He feared for his life, generating a prolonged climate of fear, despair and emotional instability in his home,” explains the Civil Guard.
Minute of silence
Fuenmayor today called for a moment of silence to condemn the violence in this case. Around a hundred people attended this concentration, organized by the Fuenmayor City Council, in coordination with the Government of La Rioja and the Government Delegation of La Rioja.
The Government delegate, Beatriz Arraiz, condemned this tragic event which “arises from a case of gender violence on the part of the priest against the mother which unfortunately forces us to talk about how the man killed his priest”. The mayor of this town of Rioja, Alberto Peso, also condemned the accidents and declared that it was a “very unpleasant” success and which was not surprising. “It was a larger family, they had been there for four or five years, even if they did not have much relationship with their elders, even if their children were completely integrated into the village.” “Fuenmayor is a quiet little place, and in recent years this has made us very sad,” he assured.
