Several members of the Civil Traffic Guard and the General Directorate of Traffic itself clash recently in several decisions regulations taken recently on the Spanish road network.
The representative of the Traffic Commission of Unified Guards Association Civilians(AUGC), Carlos Cantero, was request on the agent’s YouTube channel of the guard civil retired Alonsolguin (@Security enclave), among others, for the installation of the V16 beacon. Through this pre-signaling element, Cantero wanted to convey Ora resounding message to the drivers from the start of the meeting:
“Mkeep the triangles in the car because there will probably be circumstances where they will probably have to remove them,” and addwent: “I would put my hand in the fire that no colleague will sanction to any person because they have been excessively zealous for their safety.
Why does the AUGC consider that there are situations in which the V16 tag is not sufficient?
The AUGC spokesperson makes it clear in the interview: “There are circumstances where this beacon will be useless: changes in slope, end of turn zone in which if this vehicle is not visible due to the layout of the road itself for the other vehicle behind it, Obviously the tag won’t either.. If you can report an obstacle on the road 100 meters in advance, then this triangle will be visible before the vehicle is visible.
On the other hand, Cantero, on behalf of the associationconsiders that the connectivity of the beacon is an element that adds: “This signal addressed to DGT 3.0 on the question of those who have browsers and others is positive. We do not refuse in this sense, but there will be a circussituations in which the beacon alone will not be a panacea“.
For this reason, the Civil Guard agent requests that the V16 beacon become a complement of advance warning to add to the existingnot the only one mandatory from January 1, 2026: “We advocate that the two coexist”systems”.
What other decisions of the DGT does the AUGC criticize?
Since the entry into force of the reform of the Highway Code in March 2022, it is prohibited overtaking at 20 km/h more than the road limit on secondary roads. Carlos Cantero also wanted to give his opinion on the consequences that this modification had on the almost 4 years after the change: “It is a measure that was taken without taking into account either the experts or the agents themselves who were on the road.”
The Civil Guard explains that the previous regulation admitted this margin because: “It made sense and that was to spend the minimum amount of time necessary in the opposite direction.”
Now the problem is more serious since, just as Cantero illustrates: “If you pass a vehicle going 90 km/h, you could exceed 110 km/h, if it now turns out that this vehicle is going 80 km/h and you will not be able to exceed 90 km/h, this is pure mathematics, you’re going to have to spend more time in the opposite lane.
