The shooting range of the College of the Young Guard of Valdemoro, a key establishment for the training and training of the Civil Guard, has been equipped with a “serious and progressive deterioration” this compromises the safety of the building and those who use it.
This is stated in several official documents from the General Directorate of the Armed Institute, which also detail a long list of structural “deficiencies”, water leaks and operational risks that have not been corrected despite repeated technical warnings.
Located inside the Young Guards College complex in Valdemoro, the gallery constitutes an independent building of more than 3,400 square meters, with three different shooting ranges.

However, far from meeting the safety standards required for an installation of this type, its current state is described by technicians as “continuous deterioration”.
The damage, as they explain, was caused by the accumulation of snow during the Filomena storm of January 2021, and caused “humidity that affects the interior of the building and could be the cause of cracks in the floor and in the entrances and exits that lead to the outside”.
The first documented alerts date back to 2021when the Directorate of the Civil Guard alerted to the problems linked to the accumulation of water and the deterioration of external structural elements, without the Ministry of the Interior, led by Fernando Grande Marlaskatook no action in this regard.
In June 2023, the center’s support services officially reported serious defects, which resulted in a technical inspection.
The resulting report highlighted the falling and deformation of the roof gutters – worsened after Storm Filomena – and the poor condition of the perimeter sidewalk, which favors the entry of water into the building.
A second technical report, dated March 2024, still insisted on the fact that the state of the gallery continued to deteriorate and that The damage not only affected the watertightness of the building, but also its safety. structural and functional.
Among other problems detected, there are also emergency doors, which do not comply with current regulations because they have high thresholds that make evacuation difficult, and gutters in poor condition with “risk of detachment” due to its size and deterioration.
Added to this are the deficiencies of the sanitation network, with crushed pipes, downspouts that flow directly onto the sidewalk and humidity due to condensation in the ventilation ducts.
A set of pathologies which, according to technicians, compromise the minimum safety conditions necessary for filming, an activity which requires exhaustive control of the environment.
It was only in 2025 that the Ministry of the Interior decided to promote global action with the publication of a public price.
The renovation project, already approved, includes the complete replacement of gutters, repair of cracks, total change of paving, correction of water leaks, modification of exterior levels and partial renewal of the sanitation network, among other measures.
The basic budget of the call for tenders amounts to 920,000 euros, for an estimated contractual value of more than 760,000 euros including taxes and a completion time of six months.
Work is expected to begin in June 2026, meaning the gallery will have remained in poor condition for at least four years since serious problems were first detected.
