The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has carried out work on the future Mediterranean Corridor for 5.579 million euros since 2018 until the last month of November. This strategic railway infrastructure intended to connect the Mediterranean coast took more than 20 years, accumulating construction delays. At the same time, the Ministry of Transport assured – this time – that, since 2018, 20 million weekly investments have been invested in infrastructure. Thus, since June of the same year, when the PP was supported by the Government until November 2025, shares for more than 8.381 million euros have been awarded.
The ministry affirms that these investments have made it possible to advance in the development of the 1,838 kilometers that make up the coastal section of the Mediterranean Corridor and will allow high-speed connections between Barcelona, Tarragona, Castellón, Valencia, Alicante, Murcia, Cartagena and Málaga. Currently, more than 800 kilometers of corridor are under construction, including logistics terminals and port accesses. The balance sheet indicates that the percentage of infrastructure in service increased from 21% in 2018 to 36% at the end of 2025, while we completed the works and increased from 45% to 83% during the same period. As part of the planning, previous studies reached 100% in 2025, compared to 60% recorded in 2018, and progress in the project phase increased from 57% to 96%.
The Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Óscar Puente, defended last November, the “good pace of reversal” of future infrastructures: “In all the Autonomous Communities that cross the Corridor, there are works in progress, which will allow us to obtain in the years to come great achievements beneficial for citizens and, above all, for the logistics and business sector”.
During the year 2025, until the end of November, the ministry carried out works worth 1.155 million euros, launched tenders for works worth 895 million and awarded works worth 1.183 million.
In Catalonia, work on the future La Sagrera station and the installation of the mixed zone between Castellbisbal and Vila-seca are highlighted. These projects involve investments exceeding 50 million euros in each case. According to ministry forecasts, the commissioning of the La Llagosta goods terminal is planned in 2026, as well as the completion of the Martorell-Castellbisbal section and its connection with the Seat factory.
In the Valencian Community, more than 100 million euros were spent on the rail access canal in València and on the València-Xàtiva-La Encina high-speed link.
In Murcia, the integration of the railway in Lorca exceeded 100 million euros spent, while the high-speed connection with Cartagena reached 60 million.
In Andalusia, the Ministry of Transport has dedicated more than 300 million euros to the connection between Almería and Murcia, in addition to actions such as the Loja variant and the improvement of the Algeciras-Bobadilla line.
