One of the many outstanding questions regarding this year’s elections is whether Flávio Bolsonaro (PL) will maintain his candidacy for President of the Republic. Another concerns how much influence the former president’s last name has in conflicts across the country and a third concerns the volume of losses affecting the family and business.
The father, imprisoned without any chance for the moment of serving his sentence at home and identified in research as responsible for his own errors; the first-born, target of enormous rejection, risks losing the almost certain renewal of his mandate as senator of Rio de Janeiro.
The second son (Carlos), bombarded by his right-wing peers, unhappy with his candidacy for the Senate for Santa Catarina; the mother-in-law (Michelle), maid on the platform, ignored by her children-in-law; the youngest man (Jair Renan) means nothing to the clan as an advisor to Balneário Camboriú.
And Eduardo? Well, this is a special case in terms of misfortunes caused by one’s own hands through repeated kicks to the feet.
He lost his mandate as deputy, he lost the chance to be elected senator of São Paulo, he lost his status (false, we saw it later) as interlocutor of the government of Donald Trump, he will lose, everything indicates, the public position which gave him the stability of employee of the federal police which determined his immediate return to his post.
The former lawmaker says he has no plans to return from the United States, where, before being considered by his father, the president, to run the Brazilian embassy, he was frying hamburgers. Maybe you will find a job there if you manage to legalize yourself as an immigrant. Here, what awaits him is a trial before the Federal Court for obstruction of justice.
Looking at the situation from the perspective of the adversity facing Jair Bolsonaro and his heirs, the presence of a family member in the presidential race makes perfect sense. An important element in keeping the tribe’s name trendy throughout the campaign is the refuge the national champions have left from self-inflicted wounds.
