As the start of a crucial year for the Argentine team, with the 2026 World Cup, Lionel Scaloni took advantage of the holidays to return to Pujato, his hometown in Santa Fe province. The coach of the world champion team celebrated the New Year with his family and stayed close to his roots in a relaxed atmosphere.
A video broadcast by local portal Pujato Digital shows the technical director sitting on the sidewalk, sharing the night with his parents, while other relatives took part in the traditional caravan with neighbors to welcome the New Year. “In Pujato it is common for people to come out to say hello and when Scaloni is in town it is no exception,” they stressed from the center.
While many national team players shared on social media how they celebrated the start of 2025 – with Emiliano “Dibu” Martínez leading a huge party – Scaloni opted for restraint and enjoyed being close to his people.
During his stay in the country, the coach also devoted himself to one of his great passions outside of football: cycling. In recent hours it became known that he had completed a demanding journey in the mountains of Córdoba, in the San Clemente area, about 72 kilometers from the provincial capital.
The ride, carried out in the company of Lito Oviedo, owner of a bicycle shop in Alta Gracia, covered 95.4 kilometers with a positive gradient of 1,468 meters and an average speed of 31 km/h. The journey took just over three hours in high summer temperatures.
