The union CCOO called to “continue to improve” the quality of employment in the region after the end of the year in Castilla La Mancha with 116,808 unemployed, which represents a drop in monthly unemployment of 984 people, 0. … 8%, linked to the Christmas campaign, and a drop over one year of 10,958, or 8.58%.
With this fall, the region – reports the union in a press release – becomes the community in which unemployment fell the most in percentage terms. “You would have to go back to 2007 to find a lower figure.”
The Secretary of Employment of CCOO Castilla-La Mancha, Juan Carlos del Puerto, highlighted that “the region leads the reduction of unemployment at the national level and does so by reducing the existing gender gap.” He nevertheless indicates that we must be more ambitious “by placing emphasis on concrete measures for 2026 such as strengthening wages through collective bargaining, increasing the SMI and reducing working hours“.
“Castile La Mancha has managed to improve the dignity of jobs and working conditions, which is why we must bet that in 2026 we will continue to deepen the quality of employment in the region,” said Del Puerto.
For her part, the Secretary of Employment, Equality and Social Policies of the UGT CLM, Isabel Carrascosa, evaluated the unemployment data for the month of December in the region, which show the employment stability in the region thanks to labor reform.
“We are facing the lowest unemployment figures at the end of the year since 2007. And our region has already accumulated 5 consecutive years of falling unemployment. We closed the year with a reduction in youth and female unemployment, which is fundamental for us as a union. And we also say goodbye to 2025 with a drop in unemployment in the five provinces of Castilla-La Mancha. It is clear that the effects of labor reform continue to bear fruit, but we must now address other outstanding issues.
In this sense, the union’s Employment manager stressed the need to continue to advance in wage increases, continue the increase in the SMIas well as strengthening active employment policies to respond to the most vulnerable groups, including the long-term unemployed.
“For the UGT of Castile-La Mancha it is essential that in 2026 let’s begin an ambitious process of increasing salaries which imply a general expansion of purchasing power and result in a clear improvement in the living conditions of the working population. To do this, it is essential to agree on a further increase in the SMI, in line with the current economic expansion, in addition to continuing to encourage this increase in wages through collective bargaining, for which the new AENC agreement on which we are working will be very important. It is also essential that these increases take into account the serious housing problem and high corporate margins, which have remained at record levels in recent years. »
